Introducing Essential Fibre+
I’m so excited to welcome the newest product to our suite of supplements; Essential Fibre+.
Fibre is the foundation of true health, yet it’s the nutrient most of us miss. While protein steals the spotlight, it’s fibre that quietly does the heavy lifting: it keeps digestion comfortable, bowel movements regular, feeds the gut microbiome, lays the groundwork for immunity, and naturally supports our appetite. Without fibre as a foundation, everything else is compromised.
Over time, a diet low in fibre can pose a significant risk to our long-term health. Conversely, a diet high in fibre has a multitude of benefits, from cardiovascular health and metabolic control to glycaemic control and gut health; it is consistently associated with positive long term health outcomes.
Despite its importance, only 1 in 10 adults meet the RDA, and the average daily intake in the UK is 18g out of a recommended 30g. It’s worth noting that the RDA is not necessarily the optimal amount; studies have shown that every additional 7-10g grams of fibre beyond baseline intake is linked to a reduction in risk of a host of chronic conditions. (1)
Why is 30g of fibre is so difficult to achieve? Well, like most things in nutrition, it’s nuanced. For some of us, it’s a reliance on convenience food and eating out - only 4% of convenience meals are considered a good source of fibre (2) and we know that ultra processed foods are notoriously low in this critical nutrient. (3)
For some, it’s a simple knowledge gap - most of us are never taught about nutrition, nor to prioritise fibre, and it often falls through the cracks in favour of counting calories or protein.
And for some, foods high in fibre are notoriously linked to bloating and discomfort - despite their benefit to health - which may result in avoidance. Fasting practices can also impact our ability to hit our daily number, even if everything we’re eating is healthy.
Enter Essential Fibre+
Allow me a moment to geek out on the formula. First and foremost, each serving is going to give you 7g of plant fibre, alongside some of my favourite synergistic nutrients for gut comfort like Chamomile and Fennel. Next, this product is Low FODMAP – so well tolerated for those with IBS, SIBO, on a low fodmap diet, or who find themselves avoiding some of the best fibre foods (like beans) because of digestive sensitivity, which is often when we need fibre the most. Finally, it has a variety of fibre types - including resistant starch - which is important to foster diversity in the microbiome; because of this, it won’t fully dissolve in water, so expect it to look a little viscous.
An important note. I do want you to try this product, but I don’t want you to use it in lieu of increasing fibre in your diet. Working towards a high-quality, consistent diet, with enough of the good stuff, is still one of the most important things we can do for long-term health. But I also know this is hard, and it can take months to years to nail healthy habits, which is one of the reason Essential Fibre+ comes in handy. I'm personally excited about this product because whilst I do proactively prioritise fibre, sometimes life just gets in the way. In speaking to the community, I know that many of you feel the same – with work, travel, the food environment and family commitments, it is often hard to get enough. You can choose to use this product daily if you know you aren’t getting enough fibre, keep it handy for days you feel you need a top up, or to push your number above the RDA for optimal intake.
Whether you’re looking for freedom from gut issues, trying to cultivate a more robust metabolism, or looking to optimise whole-body health, I know that this product can support you wherever you are on your journey.
